ORION -- Services for Sgt. Virgil Jay Bates Jr., 21, of rural Orion will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kirk & Higgins Funeral Home here with burial to be in National Ceetery Aresnal Island.
There is no visitation.
Sgt Bates was killed Aug. 23 near Da Nang, South Vietnam but no details of the death were given.
A native of Rock Island, Sgt. Bates had graduated from Moline High School.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bates Sr., Coal Valley.
